Oxford City moved into the Premier Division’s top five with a dominant 2-0 win at newcomers Barwell.
The scoreline was not a true reflection of a game which City commanded from the start.
They nearly went ahead early on when Michael Lyon drove powerfully against the upright – the first of four City efforts that hit the woodwork The visitors took a deserved lead in the 18th minute when Declan Benjamin worked his way along the goal-line before his cross went in off keeper Liam Castle.
Felipe Barcelos’s finishing was found wanting in the second half when he blasted over from a good position Marvin Martin was denied when his effort hit the bar.
City made sure of the points ten minutes from time.
Barcelos’s free-kick found Adam Learoyd who headed back into the middle where Wayne Blossom got the vital touch in a crowded goalmouth.
Oxford City: Mooney, Clarke, Martin, (Stanley 80 ), Learoyd, Ballard, Blossom, Barcelos, Benjamin, Lyon, Basham (Deabill 85) Ashton. Subs not used: Fleet, Green.
