James Constable is back to lead Oxford United’s attack against Burton today.

The striker known as Beano was ruled out of last week’s defeat at Crewe with a calf injury, but has trained this week and is fit to take his place in the side.

And that news is sure to buoy a huge gate at the Kassam Stadium today.

The Bridle Bonanza day - organised by club sponsors Bridle Insurance – is likely to see a gate of almost 8,000, with the return of Constable (pictured) sure to bring a massive cheer.

United had 24 attempts on goal in the defeat at Crewe, but had only a Liam Davis effort 13 minutes from time to show for their efforts.

Assistant manager Mickey Lewis says that the finishing, or lack of it, was a concern, and is something they have worked on this week.

“We always work on shooting and the attacking aspect of our play in training, but have maybe done so especially this week,” Lewis said.

“We have done a lot of work in and around the box, and the goals are flying in, but we need to take that into Saturday.”

And Lewis confirmed: “We have Constable back for this week. He has trained and is OK.”

Boss Chris Wilder must decide who Constable replaces in attack out of Lewis Guy, Deane Smalley and Alfie Potter, and also whether midfielder Peter Leven comes straight back in after missing Crewe to attend the birth of his baby girl.

Strong displays from Damian Batt and Josh Payne as substitutes at Crewe will have helped their cause.

Burton come into the game on the back of victory over basement boys Plymouth last week.

And Paul Peschi-solido’s side have an amazing record this season of having taken the lead in every league match.

The Brewers are likely to name an unchanged line-up, but will have to shuffle their bench after veteran defender Darren Moore picked up an injury.

Oxford Utd: from Clarke, Whing, Duberry, Wright, Davis, Heslop, McLaren, Leven, Potter, Constable, Smalley, Guy, Pittman, Hall, Worley, Batt, Payne, Brown.

Burton Albion: probable Atkins, Webster, James, Corbett, Austin, McGrath, Phillips, Maghoma, Bolder, Richards, Zola. Subs: Poole, Blanchett, Palmer, Yussuf, Boertien.

l There will be some new 12th man badges available at today’s game. They will cost £2, not £1 as indicated in yesterday’s Sportsmail.
