Oxford City Stars hope to include import Martin Lee, a New Zealand international in their side for their English National League South Division 1 at home to Milton Key-nes Thunder tomorrow (6pm).
Stars need to complete the necessary paperwork in time so that Lee, who has played in Canada and Finland, can make his debut in their first home match of the campaign.
“He is a very good skating power forward who will bring a great work ethic to our team,” said Stars head coach Ken Forshee.
Stars are looking to carry over some momentum from their 1-1 draw away to fancied Chelmsford Chieftains on Sunday.
That followed 5-3 defeat at Slough the previous day.
However, both Andy Cox and Josh Florey are carrying injuries and are doubtful for the Milton Keynes game.
Stars are under new management – a consortium made up of Elaine Sutcliffe, Russ Fray and John Harrison.
Forshee said: “This is the most excited I have been about a season in quite some time.
“Last year was a wake-up call and it was quite obvious changes had to be made both on and off the ice.
“I do believe this is the start of good things in Oxford.”
