SHRIVENHAM captain Daniel Lloyd could not hide his joy after leading them to their first Airey Cup triumph.

Lloyd’s men saw off Garsington in a comprehensive 76-run victory at Kidlington CC that saw Adam Tucker hit 82 and take 5-47, while Conor Taylor hammered 67 not out off 37 balls.

“It is fantastic news,” he said. “It was a great performance from Adam and Conor, but also a great team effort.

“That was the difference for me. We were very much a unit. I am chuffed to bits.”

Shrivenham, who also reached the Oxfordshire semi-finals in the Persimmon Village Cup, made 272-5 in their 45 overs, with Garsington falling to 196 all out in reply.

Lloyd said: “I think we batted them out of the game. The last five to ten overs were vital.

“I still thought they had a slight chance with Asif Shah in, but we got him out and finished the game well.

“Once we lost three games in the league, we focused on the Airey Cup as our best chance of silverware, so it is great to achieve it.”

Garsington skipper Nigel Coltman said: “It was too big a run chase.

“We felt we were on target early on, but we were losing too many wickets. That was what cost us.

“We should have given them 30 runs less. If we had been chasing 220, we may have made a game of it.”
