Didcot Town’s winless run in Southern League Division 1 South & West continued as they went down to comprehensive 3-0 defeat against unbeaten Thatcham at the npower Loop Meadow Stadium.

The result leaves Francis Vines’s side with just two teams below them in the table having picked up only two points from their opening five games. Thatcham had the best of a scrappy opening half and should have taken the lead ten minutes before the break.

Sean Cook’s header thudded off the angle of post and bar and Jemel Johnson fired the rebound over when it looked easier to score.

But there was no let-off for Didcot on 64 minutes when Cook played-in Scott Rees, who fired past Mark Zawadski, who was making his debut in the Didcot goal.

Thatcham finished Didcot off with two late goals.

Substitute Paul Taplin rammed home from close-range after great work from Cook.

And it was no surprise when live-wire Cook, an electrician by trade, grabbed his side’s third goal two minutes later.
