MICHAEL Duberry says that Oxford United’s players are determined to use the win over Swindon as a springboard to continue their climb up the table.

The U’s take on Aldershot at the Kassam Stadium tomorrow, both sides going into the game full of confidence.

Oxford have won their last two matches, including the derby success, while Aldershot beat Championship side West Ham at Upton Park in midweek.

Duberry says no United player is getting carried away with last week’s win, but that there is a real determination to maintain their run of results.

“We’re certainly not shouting from the rooftops about winning the league and things, but in our dressing room it is all about winning the next game,” he said.

“If we keep doing that, who knows where it will take us.

“We’re going to look to play our game on Saturday, hopefully get back to a decent performance and build on the victory on Sunday.

“If we can do that, we will get in the mix with the other teams towards the top of the table.”

Duberry played in a number of fiercely-competitive derby matches while in the Premier League with Chelsea, but says that the scenes after beating Swindon will stay with him.

And he agrees with others that while United’s performance wasn’t great – it means nothing now.

“It was a brilliant feeling at the final whistle,” he said.

“To see all of our fans at the end there singing and see the Swindon fans walking out – the sea of yellow and blue behind the goal was brilliant and that day will stay in the memory bank for a long time.

“People went on about the performance, and wasn’t great, but in another 38 years people don’t care how you played, they will just see the three points and a 2-1 win.

“If we had played well and lost it would have been another unlucky Oxford team going to Swindon and losing, so it’s about time it changed.

“But now we’re all looking towards Saturday now and just want to make sure we get another ‘W’ next to our name.”
