Oxford City boss Mike Ford has urged his side to keep up the good work as they look to make it three Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division victories on the spin at Evesham on Saturday.

Tuesday’s 3-0 midweek success against Bashley followed last weekend’s 1-0 win at Cirencester and Ford believes the key to the run was the 6-0 thrashing at AFC Totton.

“It’s very strange because that maybe was the kick up the backside we needed,” said Ford, whose side host Banbury on Monday.

“Pre-season was good and everything was going well, and that defeat stunned us.

“You don’t like to lose any game, but that 6-0 defeat actually helped us, because on Saturday we were determined not to lose against Cirencester and Tuesday we played very well.

“James Clarke was nearly back to his best on Tuesday and Josh Green has made us stronger. The back four have done very well.

“But there is no time to dwell because we’ve got a tough game at Evesham.”

Steve Basham is expected to be fit after a muscle pull against Bashley, while Reece Fleet returns to the squad.

Banbury United manager Ady Fuller has hailed the form of keeper Andy Kemp.

The former Corby stopper kept his second clean sheet in a row in their last-gasp win against Redditch.

“When you are building a side you need a good keeper. If he can save you 15-20 points a season then you are laughing,” said Fuller, whose side host St Albans City.

“That’s why we brought him in, so when Corby released him we would have been mad not to sign him.

“He has worked on his fitness in the summer and you could tell that on Tuesday when he made an acrobatic save.”

Banbury will be without Danny Edmonds, Glenn Walker, Sam Youngs (all holiday) and Lewis Travers (wedding.”
