Oxford United produced a terrific effort against Championship side Cardiff before bowing out 3-1 after extra time in the first round of the Carling Cup.
United fell behind in the 12th minute.
Jake Wright attempted to cut out Jon Parkin's centre. The ball fell for Conway, whose driven cross deflected off Wright and Damian Batt was not able to stop the ball crossing the line.
United drew level on the half-hour through Simon Clist.
After neither side could find a winner in normal time, Whittingham latched onto a quick free-kick, and fired past Ryan Clarke from 20 yards.
Asa Hall hit the bar as Oxford tried all-out for an equaliser, but their attempts proved in vain and a late goal from Jarvis killed them off.
