Swedish youngster Eric Andersson's emergence has been one positive thing to take from Oxford Cheetahs' poor season.
The 20-year-old took time to settle in his first season in the Sky Sports Elite League.
But recent performances have seen him score well from the reserve spot, upping his average by nearly two points.
Speaking after he enjoyed another good night in the 46-44 home defeat by Wolverhampton on Thursday, he said: "It was working good for me off the gate tonight. It's much, much easier when you get a start and are able to dictate matters.
"In my final ride, I got pushed wide by Billy Hamill, but that's racing. I did the same to him earlier on.
"It was a meeting we should have won, we had some bad luck on the night, but I can't believe how quick the season has gone this year."
The good news is that Andersson wants to return to Oxford next year.
"I want to stay here next season," he added. Then with a glance towards Aaron Lanney, he quipped, "I have not signed anything yet."
Indicating that he wants it all tied up before he leaves for home at the end of the season.
Lanney said: "Eric has made a commitment to Oxford and British speedway this year, not like some riders, who pick and choose their meetings.
"He is still finding his way round here, but he is going to be a very good rider, I think we can all see that. I'm sure he will be the first name on the team sheet for 2007."
DON'T forget there's no speedway at Oxford Stadium tonight.
The next home match is on Wednesday when Cheetahs entertain Ipswich.
