HENLEY Hawks ran in five tries in a rampant second-half to defeat Harrogate 39-7 at Dry Leas in National 2.

Such was the quality of the forwards' tackling that Harrogate did not make a semblance of a clean break all afternoon.

Henley opened the scoring on 11 minutes when flanker Jon Tenconi broke free on the blindside to touch down after a lineout.

Fly half Mitch Burton added a penalty after 17 minutes, but Hawks only hit top gear in the second half.

Right wing Sam Caven and hooker Liam Wordley both went close before prop Tom French crossed for a try.

Harrogate saw replacement hooker Mark Erven sin-binned just before this and conceded three further scores while down to 14 men.

A penalty try, converted by Burton, plus scores from skipper Wordley and lock James Winterbottom did the damage.

Harrogate did well to stop the powerful running of centres Luke Burns and Chaska Loubers.

However, Henley's sixth try was started by a long pass from replacement fly half Barry Reeves, which led to the lively Steve Wood skipping over and Reeves converting.

Harrogate took advantage of Stean Williams' yellow card with a try from lock Bob Johnson, converted by Nick Wainwright.

Henley director of rugby Jon Lambden said: "We worked hard this week to ensure the Launceston defeat was a one off and played to our strength.

"This coupled with a match at home on our good pitch and the sun on our backs made sure we could play in the style we wanted."
