Natwest Under 15 National Club Championship

DEFENDING county champions Aston Rowant reached the Oxfordshire semi-finals as they saw off Abingdon Vale by eight wickets.

However, the result was not as clear-cut as the scoreline suggests, as Rowant reached their victory target with only four balls to spare.

Batting first, Vale posted 105-5 from their 20 overs.

But Rowant appeared to be marching into the last four as openers Dan Matthews (42no) and Andrew Tolson (48) shared a big opening stand.

Tolson was caught two short of a half-century, then Tom Condon followed first ball for a duck. This left Rowant needing 14 from 17 balls.

This became eight from the last over bowled by Joe Cardy.

Joe Hill was dropped on the boundary, and the ball went for four, and Hill hit another four to wrap up victory.

Great & Little Tew reached the last four with a seven-wicket win over Combe.

Chris Hickman (4-10) and Angus Brown (3-18) shone as Combe were all out for 75.

Tew eased home in 17 overs, with Markus Jeacock and Sam Barnes sharing an opening stand just shy of 50.

Half-centuries from Jack Groves (53no) and Darrell Williams (50no) saw North Cotswold to a formidable 172-3 against Minster Lovell.

Angus Spittles hit 47 in Minster’s reply, but they finished well short on 126-7 .

Horspath make up the semi-finalists after they beat Freeland by eight wickets.

Semi-final draw: Aston Rowant v North Cotswold, Great & Little Tew v Horspath. Ties to be played on Monday, July 4.
