Oxford University were beaten by 52 runs in the One-Day Varsity match at Lord’s yesterday.

Chasing a target of 264, the Dark Blues were always behind the required run-rate.

And despite an unbeaten 58 from Dan Pascoe, fell short.

Half-centuries from Zafar Ansari (73) and Paul Best (61) saw Cambridge set a challenging total.

Things could have been worse for Oxford, but late wickets which saw the Light Blues fall from 245-4 to 264 all out, gave them hope.

However, early wickets – including one off the second ball of the match – did little to help their cause.

No 3 Ben Williams batted well, but fell one short of his 50, before it was left to Pascoe to give the scoreling some respectibility late on.

His 58 not out came off 51 balls and included six fours, but it was not enough
