Despite a determined effort, George Stevens’s bid to join fellow Oxford Boxing Academy contender Bradley Townsend in the last 16 of the Royal Navy-sponsored Junior ABA Championships ended in disappointment.
Stevenage rival Levi Raymond built up an early lead in their Class 5 (born 1994) light welterweight clash and Stevens found himself adrift after the first two rounds.
He improved his accuracy as the bout progressed, but he could not claw back the deficit.
Also bowing out at Wokingham was Windrush Valley’s Jacob Mattock.
He could not match the accuracy of Milton Keynes Victors rival Terry O’Reilly in their Class 4 (born 1995) featherweight final, losing out on points.
The title trail resumes at the Regal in Cowley next weekend.
Townsend faces Martin McDonagh of Stowe in the Class 4 lightweight category in the pre quarter-finals, while Leslie Hill (Blackbird Leys) meets Myles Cousins of West Ham in the Class 6 (born 1993) lightweight division.
Doors open on April 10 at noon with the bell for the first of the 20 bouts sounded at 1pm. Admission is £10.
