Recent signing Ryan Burge was claiming Oxford United’s opening goal against Burton last Sunday after Steve MacLean’s shot flicked off his heel on its way in.
It’s a difficult one.
Who should be credited with the goal?
From most angles, it app-eared it has to be MacLean’s because had he not shot, it wouldn’t have gone in. But would it have gone in without the deflection as well?
Midfielder Josh Payne said: “I spoke to Ryan about it in training.
“They’ve got to discuss it it together. But certainly, if it came off my heel, I’d be saying it was my goal!”
Yet try taking it away from MacLean! And because strikers arguably need goals more than midfielders, it’s likely to remain with him.
