Banbury Ladies won the South Clubs' League Division 3A title with a 4-1 thrashing of second-placed Witney to take the only promotion spot available.
In the winner-takes-all final game, Banbury showed their class and dominated their Oxfordshire rivals, and the two wins Banbury have had against Witney proved the difference in the end.
The hard-working Natasha Nunneley scored Banbury’s first goal from a well-worked short corner.
Sadie Lapper drove into the Witney D and found Ruth Tuthill on the penalty spot to make it 2-0.
Strong passing through midfield, and some excellent work from Mel Wilkinson, soon won Banbury another short corner and Tuthill claimed her second of the game.
Joy Mangazi deflected in a short corner to give Witney a glimmer of hope, but Banbury retaliated with player-of-the-match Tuthill completing an impressive hat-trick.
Banbury coach Richard Hobley said: “Our first-half performance was as good as I have seen and they really deserved the victory and the title. They have trained twice a week since September and to only lose one game is very impressive.”
City of Oxford lost 4-2 at home to Hampstead & Westminster. Kim Haynes and Christine Fraser scored in the first half, but Hampstead pulled away in the second half.
Already-promoted Oxford Hawks lost their final Division 1 match 2-0 at third-placed Havant.
