Hednesford Tn 2 (Wellecombe 14, Clements 73)
Oxford City 1 (Lyon 85)
In-form Oxford City fell aggrieved not to have come away from Hednesford with a Premier Division point.
City matched the hosts and created enough chances to warrant a draw.
Hednesford took the lead when a free-kick bounced high over the City defence and found Nick Wellecombe, who lifted the ball over Joe White.
The game ebbed and flowed in the first half, with Dave Savage and Wayne Blossom going close for City.
City took the game to the home side after the restart and a chance fell to Michael Lyon, but he headed over.
Richard Peirson then had a looping shot just tipped over the bar.
Hednesford continued to live dangerously when Lee Steele set up Andy Ballard for his shot to be hacked off the line.
Then after 73 minutes, Chris Clements fired in low and hard past White to double Hednesford’s lead.
With five minutes left, Lyon’s shot on the turn give City hope. But the hosts held on.
Oxford City: White, Peirson, Blossom, Organ (Knight 72), Ballard, Savage, Lyon, Malone, Barcelos (Anderson 58), Steele, Martin. Subs (not used): Ford, Davis.
Attendance: 558.
