Oxford Hawks men can join the club’s ladies in clinching promotion by winning at Barnes next weekend.
Hawks entertained Tulse Hill & Dulwich for their last home game in Premier 2, and a Dave Cresswell hat-trick brought them a 3-1 win.
A couple fine of saves by Phil Hargreaves kept the visitors out before Hawks won a short corner and Cresswell launched the ball high into the net.
The goal settled Hawks, who then enjoyed more possession, going 2-0 up via another Cresswell goal.
Tulse Hill pulled one goal back from a short corner, but ‘that man’ Cresswell completed his treble with another drag low into the corner.
Banbury took a major step towards ensuring their safety in Premier 1, with a 3-2 victory over Oxford University.
Adam Jordan, the league’s top scorer, converted a penalty corner to put the students in front, Adrian Simons equalising early in the second half after good work by Andy Philpott.
Alex Evans converted another penalty corner for the University, but Simons rifled the ball in off a post, and then Roydon Burt slotted in a winner at full stretch after some good link-up with Philpott.
James Neilson’s goal proved just a consolation for Rover Oxford as they lost 3-1 at West Hampstead, who have thrashed nearly everyone else in the division by much bigger margins.
Horatio Cary’s goal earned Wallingford a 1-1 draw with Sonning.
In Regional 2, City of Oxford improved their safety chances with a 1-1 draw at Newbury & Thatcham, Martin James scoring their goal.
Rover Oxford 2nd beat Tring thanks to goals from Duncan Buckmaster and John Rogers.
The closure of the M40 badly disrupted many teams’ plans on Saturday. Witney were among those that had to postpone their match.
