The Benson Invitation was fished on the Thames at Benson and won by Mick Marriott, who landed a surprise carp of 18.4.0.
A feeder with chopped worm tempted the big mirror carp and it gave Midge.
Dandridge must have thought he had got enough to win with a 6.4.0 bream and a chub in his net, caught on a cage feeder with liquidised bread, but his 9.8.0 was only enough for second place.
A chub of 4.5.0 on flake and liquidised bread gave Ian Fisher third.
Fourteen anglers fished Kidlington’s Last Chance Cup on the Cherwell at Branson’s Meadows and once again, very few small fished showed – no roach, dace, bleak or gudgeon, only large fish were caught.
Henry Clarke fished chopped-worm feeder with half a lobworm to catch two bream, the best 5.10.8, plus a cracking chub of 6.3.0 and a perch, to triumph with 16.14.0.
Alan Steele netted two bream, the biggest going 6.2.0, plus a chub and two perch on pole and maggot for 10.13.0 and runners-up spot.
Dougie Foreshew was third with a bream and three perch for 10.0.0 on pole and worm.
The best perch weighed 3.2.8 and was caught by Jason Bean.
Final points: J Bean 134, H Clarke 98, D Foreshew 83, P Jackman 81.
The Thames looked spot-on for the seven matchmen fishing the Jolly Anglers Novice Cup on their Oxford Reach, but it fished poorly and there were several blanks.
Dick Edmunds took home the silverware with a winning weight of 12.4.0, comprising four chub and a few bleak on maggot feeder.
Five small chub, plus skimmers, on maggot feeder gave Phil Ansell second place with 7.0.0, while a chub of 5.2.0 earned Warren Cave third spot. Again maggots were the successful bait.
Six anglers contested Oxford Waltonians’ final match of the season, the Cuddesdon Shield, on the Thame at Cuddesdon All the fish seemed to be in the shallows and Dave Head weighed in five small chub on pole and maggot to win with 10.2.0.
Tony Krason netted three chub on legered bread for a second-placed 9.8.0, and third with 3.10.0 was Mick Baston. He also used bread.
Littlemore combined their Chandlers Cup, Christmas Shield and Blind Pairs into one match and it was another struggle, as the 11 anglers had to contend with the extra water pushing through Sandford Weir.
Reports were that bream were coming out on the Saturday, but the only fish obliging the next day were chub.
John Wicks won his first match at Sandford with two chub on maggot-feeder for 9.11.0. His first was 3.10.0 and the second a cracker of 6.1.0. He also lost one at the net.
A chub of 3.11.0 on maggot feeder gave Don Spearpoint second place, while Alan Campbell had a small chub on bread first cast for third.
John Wicks and Alan Campbell won the Blind Pairs.
