Oxford racer Nathan Harrison opened his British Championship challenge with two second places in the first round at Wilton Mill, near Northampton.
Driving for Sheffield-based Strawberry Racing, the 14-year-old took the runners-up spot in the Rotax Junior class for 13-17-year-olds.
On both occasions, he finished behind 16-year-old teammate Jack Barlow, from Hastings.
Harrison, who goes to Matthew Arnold School, Cumnor, competes next in the first round of the Euromax series at Genk in Belgium on Sunday, April 3.
He then goes on to round two of the British Championship at Shenington, near Banbury, the following Sunday.
