Witney may well look back on their debut season in South West 1 East with regret, despite some fine displays.
Having led the table early on, a run of eight successive defeats ended any outside promotion hopes.
But although survival is no mean feat for a promoted side, Witney’s joint coach John Campbell feels they should have done better.
He said: “It is an open league. If we had kept our form, we would have been right in it.
“I reckon we have dropped 15 points. We could have been in the top four.”
Campbell added: “The attitude in training has been awesome. They have had to put up with me bellowing at them all the time.
“I would still rather have the players we have got than most other teams.
“Maidenhead’s South Sea Islanders will go home next year, but our players will still be here.”
