THE Polomoche made a sparkling comeback from injury for an Oxfordshire-based syndicate at Kingston Blount, near Chinnor.
Formerly trained under National Hunt Rules by Nicky Henderson, the eight-year-old was handed to Marcus Foley by owner Anthony Speelman after suffering a fractured pelvis.
Foley, who hails from Lew, near Witney, nursed the gelding back to fitness at his pre-training yard at Rockley, near Marlborough.
And with his Faringdon-based brother, James, a planning manager at BMW Oxford, heading a syndicate, which includes workmate Barry Demain, The Polomoche returned in style.
Sam Painting sent the 5-2 shot clear of odds-on favour-ite More Trouble, who was unbeaten in five starts at the track for Aston Rowant trainer Alan Hill, at the third last to score by eight lengths.
A delighted Marcus Foley said: “He is just going to be a fun horse, but he might end up at Cheltenham on May 4.”
Claire Hart, who works at Charlie Longsdon’s National Hunt yard at Chipping Norton, made the most of a late spare ride to take the ladies’ open on Lady Myfanwy.
Hart was riding out at home near Moreton-in Marsh when she got the call at 11.30am to parner Myfanwy Miles’s Welsh raider with scheduled rider Sally Randell unable to fulfil the commitment as one of her horses had colic.
And her dash to the course paid off as she took up the running on the ten-year-old mare going out on to the final circuit to beat last year’s winner Balladeer, from Hill’s yard, by six lengths.
Miles went on to complete a double with Findlay’s Find in the restricted with John Mathias in the saddle. Chinnor trainer Stephen Allen notched his first Kingston Blount winner when Departed took the open maiden for four to seven-year-olds.
James Banks’s mount collared Mulranny at the last fence to score by a length.
Noble Ben set what was believed to be a course record of 6mins 1sec when beating Bon Accord – Hill’s third runner-up of the day – by a length in the club members conditions race for owner-trainer Heather Ridley and her jockey son, James.
Caught In Time took the open maiden for seven year olds and over for Great Missenden trainer Karen Lawther and rider Philip York.
And Timeshift, trained by Zoe Hammond, ran out an impressive ten-lengths winner of the restricted under David Mansell.
