THE Premier Section title race looks set to be a tight tussle as Vikings A and Kennington both won their latest matches in the Johnson’s Buildbase Oxford League, writes PETE EWINS.
Vikings beat Masons A 4-1 at Kennington, with Ian Moss (4,450-3,290), Alan Lacey (3,460-2,730) and Bob Allsworth (6,860-2,870) taking the first three games.
Martyn Wood saw off Mike Jones to make it 3-1, only for Alan Oliver (7,040) to beat Mick Murphy.
Kennington triumphed 3-2 against Comrades at Didcot Con Club.
Simon Ellam (5,230) put Comrades ahead, but Mark Trafford and Steven Sheard (10,220, break 9,790) made it 2-1.
Chris Storch (5,040) levelled the match, before Kevin Godfrey knocked up 12,430, including a break of 8,910, to give Kennington victory.
Vikings’ lead is now four points, but they still have to play Kennington.
Section 1 leaders Masons B beat Gladiators A 3-2.
Masons’ wins came from Ernie Smith (3,500), Chris Webb (7,020) and Martin Skyrme (4,930).
Bob Pincombe (6,160) and Keith Gardner (5,890) replied for Gladiators.
Results: Vikings 4, Masons A 1; Comrades 2, Kennington 3; Masons B 3, Gladiators A 2; Gladiators B 1, Marlborough 4; Head-ington CC 3, Dolphin 2.
