Oxford City secretary John Shepperd was cursing the wintry weather following the postponement of yesterday’s Zamaretto Southern League derby clash at home to Didcot Town.
The Premier Division contest was called off on Sunday, because of the frozen snow-covered pitch at Court Place Farm.
“The freezing weather’s disastrous for clubs at our level,” said Shepperd.
“Not only have we been denied the revenue from a crowd of 400-500, but the weather has also hit our social income. Several Christmas parties, have been cancelled because of the bad weather.”
The City v Didcot clash has been rearranged for Tuesday, February 8.
North Leigh’s sixth consecutive postponement – yesterday’s Division 1 South & West clash at home to Bishops Cleeve – means not a ball has been kicked in anger in December.
Pete King, the North Leigh chairman, said: “It’s been a horrendous month.
“We’ve had to throw barrels of beer away because no-one is coming to the ground for a drink.”
The whole of yesterday’s Southern League and Hellenic League programmes were wiped out.
The only sport not to have suffered is greyhound racing, where after the removal of snow from the Oxford track, action has gone on uninterrupted.
