Last weekend’s match calendar was thrown into total disarray after the very heavy snow on Saturday, writes ANDY WEBBER.

I spent some time speaking to local clubs, who all reported that their fixtures on the Sunday had been cancelled and moved to other dates.

Then, out of the blue, the phone went and Sutton Courtenay’s John Percival told me that seven doughty anglers had turned up to fish their Christmas Cup on the Thames at Appleford.

Bites were hard to come by and several anglers lost fish, but at the whistle it was Gary Stafford who emerged the victor with two chub for 7.15.0.

He used a cage feeder filled with liquidised bread and flake on the hook.

Gary was the only angler to weigh in, but everyone then retired to the Plough in Sutton Courtenay for some hot stew and prizes.

AS from January 1, North Oxford AS are reducing their permits to half price. They are available from all local tackle shops.

NORMALLY at this time of year, a few anglers like to venture out over the Christmas holiday, but I fear only the hardiest will be braving the elements.

If you do, chub will be your best bet from rivers, with bread the bait to use.

Go light and use small hookbaits, but most of all, take great care.

Best wishes to all those who have contributed to this angling page over the year.

Without your support it would be impossible for me to put this together.
