Oxfordshire's leading clubs are bracing themselves for some severe fixture congestion in 2011 after the latest round of snow.
And the backlog means the prospect of teams playing twice in a weekend to get through Oxfordshire Cup matches as well.
After the Christmas break, Oxford Harlequins now have National 3 South West fixtures every Saturday between January 8 and April 16, except on April 2.
Chinnor have just one further Saturday off –February 26 – while Henley Hawks’ National 2 South season will now end on April 30 after playing 17 straight matches in 2011.
In South West 1 East, Witney have the same demanding schedule as Quins in the league above, while Wallingford have a solitary extra week off on February 12.
Banbury will play every weekend in Midlands 1 West, except April 2.
Oxfordshire RFU president and chairman of cup competitions, Doug Bosley, said: “Without my crystal ball and knowing what the weather is going to do in the forseeable future, I predict the only way to get the cup games in this year will be either to play two games in a weekend or midweek under floodlights.
“There has also been talk of the leagues asking clubs to play Easter Saturday, Easter Monday and midweek if possible.”
The Oxfordshire Cup quarter-finals are due to be played on February 12 or 13, with the semi-finals two weeks later.
Henley, who are the highest ranked side in the competition, visit Chinnor in the last eight, with Witney hosting Quins and Oxford entertaining Grove.
Should Henley reach the final at Iffley Road, they will almost certainly have to play back-to-back matches that weekend too.
Bosley said: “In relation to the final, hopefully it will be around its normal date (in April).
“I have yet to confirm the exact date with Oxford University, but a Sunday is the preferred day, so this should not effect Henley.”
The Oxfordshire Shield should be slightly less complicated as teams in the BB&O Premier Division and below have fewer fixtures to fit in.
But, with three last eight ties still to be played, it is now unlikely that the semi-finals will take place on January 22 or 23 as scheduled.
