Oxford Harlequins have suffered a blow ahead of tomorrow’s National 3 South West derby at Chinnor with the news that Pete Boulton has a broken arm.
The giant tight-head prop went off injured just before half-time during last week’s 40-14 victory over Cheltenham, and an X-ray later confirmed the break.
Despite Boulton’s absence, director of rugby John Brodley is eagerly anticipating the 2pm clash at Kingsey Road.
Brodley said: “We are looking forward to a highly-charged competitive game against our local rivals.
“We have shown in recent weeks we are capable of scintillating rugby and are looking to sustain that style for longer.
“We have told the players to be aggressive in defence, but controlled in their emotions and to look for counter-attacking opportunities.”
Full back Graeme Crapper is also missing from last week’s side, with Huw Jones coming in, while Paul DeLange, Ollie Barlow and Matt Edney are in contention for a prop spot.
Chinnor head coach Jason Bowers said his squad are “as we want to be” for the game, although prop Joe Winpenny is in Australia for a wedding.
Having lost their last two matches, Bowers said: “It’s important to win before Christmas.
“We were disapppointed to lose at Exmouth because it was a game we should have won, but Old Pats played well and thoroughly deserved it.
“We have a good home record and hopefully we will continue that form.”
Henley Hawks make four changes for the visit of Newbury in National 2 South, with prop Alex Penny, lock Jeremy Giles, plus back-row forwards Barty Carson and Chris Emmett coming in.
James Comben moves to fly half, Tom Allen to outside centre and Neil Baggett to full back.
Forward Joe Rowles returns to the Witney squad for their home game against Buckingham in South West 1 East.
Jake Thomas could move from full back to centre.
Wallingford, who visit Bletchley, add lock Tom Rowberry plus backs Angus Brettell and Dan Stalker to their squad.
