Oxfordshire referees’ chief Andy Rolfe says Gosford All Blacks were to blame for not having a referee for Saturday’s BB&O Premier Division clash with Stow-on-the-Wold.
The mix-up led to the game being postponed and Gosford reported it to the Oxford Mail as being due to a lack of an official referee.
But Oxfordshire Society of Rugby Football Referees president Rolfe said: “The cancellation of the Gosford All Blacks fixture was not, as stated in the paper this week, due to the lack of a referee, but the failure of the club to ascertain the details from the referees society.
“A referee was appointed, travelled to the ground where he was met by the club secretary, and advised that they thought they didn’t have a referee and cancelled the fixture without contacting the referees society first.”
