Oxford A lifted the Inter Area Cup for the first time since 1997 with a 6-4 victory on aggregate over Wallingford A, writes PETE EWINS.
Leading 4-1 from the away leg, Oxford went down 3-2 on the Kennington Club table, but that was enough to capture the cup.
Stuart Florey set Oxford on the way by beating Leon Beer 6,690-1,990 in the opening game.
Mark Trafford then hit a brilliant 17,950 against the break in the second to clinch victory.
Wallingford’s Mark Turner (16,660), Phil Collins (11,210) and Dennis Atkins (5,900-4,030) won the next three games.
Meanwhile, Vikings kept up their challenge in the Johnsons Buildbase Oxford League Premier Section with a 4-1 win over Gladiators Club A at Democrats Club.
Alan Oliver (6,320), Mike Jones (5,190), Bob Allsworth (4,370) and Ian Moss (10,410) reeled off the first four games.
Keith Gardner was 4,000 in front of Alan Lacey, who lost a similar score but pegged to let in Gardner, who finished off with a score of 9,680 to prevent a whitewash.
Leaders Kennington won 4-1 against Democrats Club on the Comrades Club table.
Mark Trafford (11,380) and Kevin Godfrey (8,850) led the way.
Masons A bounced back from last week’s reverse to win 4-1 against Comrades Club at the Gladiators Club.
Martyn Wood (4,670), Alan Lowe (6,410) and Dave Rose (8,390) took the last three games to secure victory.
In the Section 2 individuals competition, Sid Ponting beat Graham Mildenhall 8,480-3,740 on aggregate at Masons Arms.
Phil Clark edged past Dolphin’s Kirsty Jarvis 4,210-3,190 in the Kernahan Cup at Didcot Conservative Club.
Chris Bateman knocked out Mellissa Standbridge 10,960-2,410 at the same venue.
