Matt Green gets the chance to force his way back into Oxford United manager Chris Wilder’s thoughts when he plays for the reserves at Watford in the totesport.com Combination today (2pm).

The striker has not started a game for United since they bowed out of the FA Cup at the first-round stage with a 1-0 defeat at Burton Albion on November 7.

Since then he has had to take a back seat due to the stunning form of the U’s on-loan Plymouth frontman Steve Maclean.

Green is added to a strong-looking line-up that also includes goalkeeper Simon Eastwood, right back Ben Purkiss, midfielder Asa Hall and left back Anthony Tonkin.

The game was scheduled to be played yesterday, but was switched to today at the Championship club’s request.

Meanwhile, United have extended the cheaper ticket deadline as they look to pull in their highest home crowd of the season for the visit of Macclesfield to the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday, December 28.

Prices have been cut for this game for all areas to the cheapest levels for a United game in almost a decade – with the lowest-priced tickets being £11.

And with demand so high the deadline has been extended until 1pm on Christmas Eve.

More than 7,000 fans have booked already, and the season’s best home crowd of 7,947 against Port Vale looks certain to be broken.

The highest crowd since United moved to the Kassam Stadium was the 12,243 that packed in to see the home game against Leyton Orient on May 6, 2006, which saw the U’s relegated from the Football League.

The highest Boxing Day attendance at the Kassam Stadium was 11,121 in 2001 for the visit of Luton.

Ticket office manager Mick Everett said: “There has been a huge interest in the two games at Christmas and we are on course to break the best this season by a long way.

“People seem to love coming to a match over Christmas and the cheaper prices seem to have helped.

“Our online sales are the highest we have ever had.”
