Wallingford director of rugby Martin Moran was delighted with his side’s defensive effort against Witney.
He said: “I think the scoreline was a little bit flattering in the end.
“That wasn’t the best Witney have played, but credit to us, we stopped them playing.
“We had to front up and make our tackles. Our tackle count was huge and I only counted two missed tackles.
“Three tries to one gives more balance in terms of the result. I am just very pleased.
“We backed up what we did two weeks ago against Oakmeadians and defensively we were superb.
“The scrums were pretty even, but we had the edge on them in the mauls.
“We probably only had 30 per cent of the possession, but we took our chances when they came.”
Witney joint coach John Campbell said: “We didn’t take our chances in the first half.
“I could see why James Lamb went for the corner, but we kept doing it.
“They tackled well and defended well.
“They got a sniff and then took their chances.
“At one stage, they had us on the rack. I think they deserved the win.
“I am a bit disappointed, but it is one of those things.”
“Really we should have put them away in the first half and been ten points up at half-time.”
