Oxfordshire athlete Hatti Dean produced a superb performance to lead Great Britain to team silver in the European Cross Country Championships yesterday.
The former Radley runner finished in seventh place in the senior women’s race, in Albu-feira, Portugal.
Dean’s time of 27mins 8secs meant that she was the first British athlete to cross the line.
With teammates Louise Damen (17th), Steph Twell (20th), Helen Clitheroe (21st) Gemma Steel (27th) and Hayley Yelling-Higham (28th) all well-grouped, Great Britain secured second place.
They were, however, no match for the host nation, for whom Jessica Augusto landed a double – individual as well as team gold.
Dean produced a lifetime best performance in athletics’ European Championships earlier this season.
The 28-year-old knocked eight seconds off her personal best when finishing fourth in the 3,000m steeplechase.
But she is now concentrating on cross country events, and showed she is in fine form with a well-judged run.
Great Britain topped the medals table with four golds, a silver and two bronzes.
