Oxford Mail Cross Country League
Steve Naylor produced another dominant display to win round two at Culham Park.
The Woodstock Harrier won by almost two minutes to collect his second victory from two races this season.
Naylor clocked 31mins 50secs for the 8.5km course to finish well ahead of Abingdon Amblers’ Simon Fisher (33.40).
Alchester’s Nigel Marley was third (33.50), with Abingdon’s Paul Fernandez (34.19) and Oxford City’s Darrell Bellinger (34.25) finishing in sixth and seventh respectively.
Fisher led Amblers to a superb team display, as they topped the Division 1 standings by 122 points.
Having just pipped defending champions Oxford City in round one at Ascott-under-Wychwood, Abingdon now lead the rankings by 166 points.
Fisher was well supported by Fernandez and Les Newell (35.03), who came 12th, with Stephen Copley (27th), Nigel Bunn (44th) and Chris Bedford (58th) completing their team.
Usually known as the muddiest course on the league circuit, the venue, which is also used for motocross, was largely hard under foot due to the big freeze.
But Naylor had little trouble establishing a lead and must now be strong favourite to add the title to his impressive road-running haul.
Naylor’s efforts mean Woodstock A are well placed to bounce straight back to Division 1 in the men’s team competition.
They lie second in Division 2, just 15 points behind White Horse Harriers, with the top two earning promotion.
James Bolton was Woodstock’s second finisher, 11th in 34.52, while David Cantwell (37.04) and Kevin Game (37.21) also finished in the top 30.
Witney A already face a battle to avoid relegation from Division 1 after falling 203 points behind safety.
Justin Young (38.16) was their first runner home in 49th place.
White Horse Harriers top the men’s Division 2 rankings on 735 points.
