OXFORD United are confident tomorrow’s League Two game against Barnet at the Kassam Stadium will go ahead – after bringing in warm air blowers to beat the freeze.
The whole pitch is covered, and the blowers circulate hot air underneath the covers.
The U’s will be without centre back Jake Wright, who will have his injured foot pinned and operated on this week, but they are hopeful he will not be out for as long as first feared.
After the way Ben Futcher and Harry Worley played in the second half at Chesterfield, and with Leigh Franks waiting in the wings, there are no plans to try to bring in another defender at the moment.
“Futch is getting better by the game,” said manager Chris Wilder.
“It’s been difficult for him because he’s come into a losing team.
“He’s not played a lot of football, but I thought we saw signs (at Chesterfield), against a very dangerous front two, that he is coming into his own. He played exceptionally well.”
Wilder is hoping his team can build on the confidence they gained from last week’s win at Chesterfield.
“The message is that one result doesn’t make our season,” Wilder added.
“The run we had hurt us. But I never felt that we were in freefall and that we had real problems.
“I felt that a win was just around the corner and in other games we could have got results.
“I know I’ve got good players at the football club and I think it showed at Chesterfield.
“Goals change games. We were good in both boxes and we’ve got to make sure that continues.”
