Oxford University captain Nick Haydon has named ten new Blues in his side to face Cambridge in the 129th Nomura Varsity Match.
Four of Oxford’s back line and six of their pack will win their first Blues when they take the field at Twickenham next Thursday.
And Oxford could have two brothers earning Blues together for the first time since 1976 with Dan Guinness starting at blindside flanker and Harry Guinness named as a replacement.
General manager Tim Stevens said: “I believe the last time brothers both played was 1975 and 76 – Dugald and Donald MacDonald.
“Their younger brother Coll also played in 1985 and 86.
“Dugald’s son, also called Dugald, is at Oxford this year and has been named on the bench for the Greyhounds!”
The other new Blues selected by Haydon to start are full back James Crozier, wings Luke Fenwick and Luke Jones, fly half Charlie Marr, props Hamish Macdonald and Will Kane, hooker Gov Oliver, lock Tom Evans, and openside flanker Louis Mather.
Only scrum half Haydon, inside centre Alex Cheesman and No 8 Stan McKeen started in last year’s 31-27 defeat, while lock Karl Outen came off the bench and outside centre Sean Morris started in 2008.
Dark Blues head coach Murray Henderson said: “We are quite a young side, so Dan Guinness’s experience will be pretty important.
“He has got three or four games under his belts and is ready to go.
“A six that jumps in the line-out is really important.
“You chose your back row for work on the floor, ball-carrying and line-out skill. I think now we’ve got a good mix.”
Henderson added: “The last 20 minutes will be very important. We are hopeful that the bench will be the strength of this squad.
“When you look at guys like AJ Connor, Alex Rowe, Ian Swan and Jez Mather, they will all add a lot to the side.”
Cambridge captain Jimmy Richards has also named ten new Blues, but Australian international lock Dan Vickerman and star centre Sandy Reid are out injured.
Richards’ line-up includes prop Niall Conlon, centre Fred Burdon and No 8 Ben Maidment, who started last year, plus hooker Jamie Gilbert, who came off the bench.
Replacement props Tim Harris and Andy Daniel have both won Blues, while former Oxford Cavalier Greg Cushing starts at fly half.
