Didcot Conservative Club swept to the top of the Premier Section after victories against Gladiators A and previous leaders Kennington, writes PETE EWINS.

At Gladiators, Didcot won 4-1 as Dave Tooke (7,090), Geoff Mace (6,880), Tony Broadway and Stuart Florey won the opening four games.

Frank Cox averted the whitewash by beating Jenny Florey.

Didcot then pulled off a brilliant victory against Kennington.

Although Mark Trafford put Kennington in front, Didcot stormed back to take the next four with wins from Stuart Florey, Dennis Atkins, Jenny Florey and Sue Atkins giving them the points.

Jenny Florey inflicted Keith Sheard’s first defeat of the season, as did Sue Atkins, over Steven Sheard, in her 8,340-4,320 triumph.

Kennington recovered from this setback with a 4-1 win at Masons B.

Dave Butt (7,710) won Masons’ only point, while Steven Sheard was top-scorer for Kennington with 10,680.

Vikings A edged past Comrades Club 3-2.

Simon Ellam played out the table, scoring 18,100 to put Comrades in front.

But Vikings took the next three games through Ian Moss, Bob Allsworth and Mike Jones.

Masons A won 4-1 at struggling Democrats with victories from Lewis Stratford, Martyn Wood, Dave Rose and Maxi McDonnell.

  • OXFORD A beat Wallingford A 4-1 in the first leg of the Inter Area Cup final at Queen’s Goring.

Wallingford won the opener through Leon Beer, after Dave Tooke lost a 7,000 break.

But Oxford stormed back to take the next four games with wins from Steven Sheard (10,990), Mark Trafford (9,980), Stuart Florey (4,580) and Kevin Godfrey (5,530).

The return leg is on December 8 at a venue to be decided.
