Oxfordshire's talent was out in force on Friday night – with the county’s finest honoured in the 2010 Oxfordshire Sports Awa-rds.
The prestigious event, run in conjunction with the Oxfordshire Sports Partnership, saw a full house at the Kassam Stadium.
Superbly presented by BBC Oxford duo Jo Thoenes and Jerome Sale, the big audience were certainly not let down with the names on show.
Chelsea starlet Josh McEachran scooped the Sportsman of the Year award, with world darts No 1 Deta Hedman landing the Sportswoman of the Year – although she was unable to attend as was playing in a tournament in Belgium.
With Oxford United, who were well represented by chairman, coaching staff and players, winning the Team of the Year and boss Chris Wilder the Coach of the Year, there were plenty of well-known faces in the crowd.
And the same can be said of the junior awards, which threw up names to follow.
John Paul won the Junior Sportsperson of the Year, and is hoping to continue his rise through the cycling ranks.
The youngster, from Wantage, represented Scotland at the Commonwealth Games, and says that he is setting his sights high in 2011.
“It has been an absolutely fantastic year,” he said.
“It is just an amazing night to celebrate everyone’s success “There have been some fantastic achievements.”
Paul, who was proudly wearing his Scottish kilt from the Commonwealth Games, said: “Going out there was just a fantastic experience, to compete at the top level. Hopefully in the future I will experience that again.
“Next year I will be looking to compete at the junior world championships and the junior European championships.”
Young cricket umpire Ethan Peel landed the Junior Unsung Hero prize, with the Junior team of the Year going to Oxford School of Gymnastics, who won a silver medal at the World Championships.
Horspath Cricket Club won the Club of the Year after seeing all their four teams win their respective divisions in the MP Sports Cherwell League.
And the Active Inspiration Award went to Janette Cardy, who was diagnosed with ME and Chronic Fatigue in 2004, but after being housebound for more than a year, has battled back and is now competing in aquathons (swimming and running).
