Almondsbury Tn 3 (Pitcher 13, Mahdi 21, Brice 53)
Abingdon Utd 1 (Harper 31)
Abingdon United’s slump continued as they crashed to defeat in Division 1 South & West on Saturday.
Abingdon have now won only once in 15 games, and the introduction of new signings JP Mills, Shaun Wimble and Graham Lewis made little difference to their fortunes.
They did look better than in recent games, however, and had the best of the early chances.
Chris Harper saw a low shot well blocked by Almondsbury keeper Matt Hamilton, who was again called ten minutes later, turning away Matty Horsell’s effort.
Against the run of play, Almondsbury went in front when Jack Pitcher slotted home.
After Sam Elkins shot wide for Abingdon, the home side doubled the lead when Adam Mahdi found himself un-marked in the box to shoot low into the corner.
Abingdon had a strong appeal for a penalty waved away after Graham Lewis was brought down in the box, but they reduced the arrears soon after.
Horsell sent the ball into the box and Harper flicked home on the run across the six yard box.
But the home side netted a third goal eight minutes after the break as skipper Scott Brice headed in a corner.
Abingdon threw everything at the home side in the last 20 minutes, but Almondsbury held on.
Abingdon Utd: Foster, Elkins, Gardner (J Mills 82), Carnell, Franklin, Wimble, Harper (Odhiambo 80), Melledew, Horsell (JP Mills 65), Barnes, Lewis. Sub not used: Beames.
