Didcot Tn 1 (Connolly 13)
Cambridge City 2 (Hammond 25, Hughes 45)
James Organ was sent off on his debut as Didcot Town’s home woes continued with this narrow defeat in the Premier Division on Saturday.
The Railwaymen felt they deserved a share of the points, especially playing the last 20 minutes with ten men.
All the goals came in a dramatic first half.
Didcot had already seen Andy Gunn’s header saved by Zac Barrett when they took the lead.
Organ fired the ball across the box and Reece Connolly flicked home.
Josh Huggins saw a shot deflected over the bar, and Connolly’s scrambled effort was ruled out for offside.
Against the run of play, Cambridge levelled through Craig Hammond.
And on the stroke of half-time, the visitors went in front courtesy of Craig Hughes, who volleyed home an Adrian Cambridge corner.
The game ebbed and flowed after the break with chances at both ends.
Barrett saved brilliantly from Didcot’s Dave Lawrence and then Jordan Tabor’s free-kick.
At the other end, Hammond should have done better, only to shoot high and wide.
Connolly then missed an open goal, before Organ was dismissed for a second caution.
Only a stunning block from Smith denied Cambridge a third goal near the end.
Didcot Tn: Smith, Heapy, Organ, Alexis (Tabor 58), A Williams, Gunn, Lawrence, Huggins, Connolly, Griffin (Osborne-Ricketts 58), M Williams.
