JAMES Constable says that reliving the memories of Oxford United’s play-off final victory over York in May still gives him goosebumps.

The U’s striker was present to collect the Team of the Year award on behalf of the U’s at the 2010 Oxfordshire Sports Awards on Friday night.

As he and teammate Ryan Clarke made their way to the stage to pick up the trophy, highlights of the 3-1 victory over York at Wembley played behind them on the big screen.

And Constable admitted that it still made great viewing.

“I had been to Wembley and lost, so to win there, to score and be lucky enough to pick up the trophy at the end was just fantastic – it still gives me goosebumps,” he said.

“It was just such a good day for everyone in Oxford – you can’t watch it enough.

“It’s great to receive this award on behalf of the team.”

United boss Chris Wilder won Coach of the Year, and echoed the thoughts of his captain.

“It was an unbelievable day –one we will never forget,” he said.

“To take more than 33,000 people to Wembley, to win, and then have a similar amount at the parade through Oxford just showed what it meant.

“I’m just thrilled to have been a part of a day, a few days, that will live with so may people forever.”

When collecting his award, United’s boss joked: “I’m guessing voting for this was made before the last month,” referring to the fact United had lost five games in a row before their win over table-topping Chesterfield last week.

“I’m obviously delighted to pick up the award though, and just happy that I have helped get Oxford United back to their rightful place in the Football League.”

He added: “What we now have to do, is keep pushing the club on and see how successful we can be.

“We have the fan base here to keep going, and that is what we all want to do.”
