Director of rugby Martin Moran offered an honest assessment after Wallingford’s home defeat to Olney.
He said: “I thought the scoreline was slightly flattering, but our midfield defence was really poor today.
“In the first quarter, we were still asleep and did not spot that their fly half was missing out two players to find their fast winger.
“We came back into it with some good pick and drives, but we were not clinical enough to finish moves off.
“It was really their backs against our forwards. They had a bit more intensity than we did.”
As for their relegation battle, Moran added: “I have faith in these players and we will work at it.
“We have also got three or four really promising colts who we are fast-tracking to bring into the first team.”
