Banbury United collected their first home win of the Premier Division season with a 2-0 victory over Cambridge City tonight.
The hosts took the lead on 18 minutes when Declan Benjamin fired home from Nabil Shariff’s cross.
Cambridge had not previously lost on their travels, but went 2-0 down after 43 minutes when Adam Learoyd headed on a cross at the far post for Jason Taylor to score.
John Kennedy and Ashley Fuller went close for Cambridge after the break, but Banbury could have scored more, Shariff hitting a post with their best effort.
Lee Steele’s stoppage-time equaliser earned Oxford City a 1-1 draw at home to Bashley.
Bashley had the better of the opening 70 minutes, having scored through Tom Hill on 35 minutes.
But City came on strong as their visitors sat back and Steele finished well from Jack Ashton’s cross.
Didcot Town also needed a last-gasp leveller to draw 2-2 at home to basement boys Weymouth.
Alex Stanley put Didcot ahead on five minutes, but Weymouth’s ex-Oxford United duo Rob Wooleaston and Richard Groves struck in the second half.
Defender Andy Williams spared Didcot’s blushes.
North Leigh battled back to win 2-1 at Thatcham Town in Division 1 South & West.
Danny Williams opened the scoring on nine minutes after Joe Burnell had lost possession.
North Leigh raised their game after the break, but had to wait until 80 and 82 minutes to score through Burnell and Andy Caton respectively – both from close range.
