Matt O’Connor’s late try saw Oxford edge out Chipping Norton 26-19.
With the scores tied at 19-19, Oxford created an overlap for O’Connor to score in the corner and Dom Coe converted.
The opening 20 minutes saw three penalties apiece, Coe on target for Oxford.
Alex Jenks charged down a Chippy kick to run in Oxford’s first try, while Josh Grant was driven over for their second from a line-out.
Chippy bagged a fourth penalty before half-time and a converted try afterwards thanks to some strong scrummaging, but they could not hang on for a draw.
Grove defeated Wootton Bassett 26-12 in a bad-tempered match at Cane Lane.
Wootton’s right wing and Grove hooker Steve Dixey were both sent off following a second-half brawl.
Bassett led 9-0 on five minutes through three penalties.
Grove centre Jamie Burns smashed over from close range, with scrum half Roger Sevier converting.
Dixey and Wootton’s tigh-head prop were yellow-carded before Sevier’s penalty made it 10-9.
Flanker Guy Nicholl scored Grove’s second try, followed by two Sevier penalties.
Then came the two sendings-off, a Wootton penalty, and a fine finish out wide from Grove wing Harry Carr.
