Two first-half goals by Rotherham's top scorer, Adam Le Fondre, left Oxford United's new-look team with it all to do at Don Valley Stadium today.
Le Fondre struck after 26 and 38 minutes, after the U's had enjoyed the better of the first half an hour, without being able to convert their chances.
New signings Ben Futcher, Paul Wotton, who was made captain, and Steve Maclean all came in for their debuts.
But in first-half stoppage time, Simon Clist pulled a goal back to give Oxford hope for the second half.
