Josh McEachran spoke of his delight last night after a whirlwind few months earned him an England Under 21 call-up.
The 17-year-old, from Kirtlington, was named by Stuart Pearce for Tuesday’s friendly in Germany.
McEachran, born in Oxford, made history in September when becoming the first person born after the UEFA Champions League started on November 25, 1992, to play in the competition.
Tipped for big things by Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti earlier this season, McEachran has made eight appearances for Chelsea’s first team this season.
“The last few months have been an incredible experience stepping up to the Chelsea first team,” said McEachran.
“And a call-up to the England under 21 team is a real honour.”
The midfielder started his football with Garden City in the Oxford Mail Boys League, and after being spotted by a scout, joined Chelsea at the age of eight.
From Kirtlington School he went to Marlborough School, Woodstock.
McEachran, who was part of the England Under 17 side that won the European Championships, received an Under 19 call-up earlier this season.
However, his inclusion in Pearce’s squad is arguably his biggest achievement so far.
