OXFORD United manager Chris Wilder says no-one should take too much notice of the league table ahead of Aldershot Town’s visit to the Kassam Stadium tomorrow, writes JON MURRAY.
The Shots are down in 15th place, having drawn six of their ten matches in League Two.
But they beat the U’s 2-0 in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, and are a dangerous animal, Wilder warns.
“We can’t get carried away about playing teams below us in the league and think it’s a gimmie. That’s just ridiculous,” he said.
“We’re playing a team who, in their manager’s eyes, and in his words, is the strongest that the club’s ever had.
“And that’s on the back of them getting to the play-off semi-finals and narrowly losing against a well-backed Rotherham side.
“It’s early days in the league. We’ve seen how it can change with a couple of wins.”
After two draws and a win, Oxford have climbed to ninth in the table.
Wilder added: “Aldershot don’t give a lot away and they’ve brought in a couple of very good players.
“Glen Little was playing in the Championship last year for Sheffield United and Wade Small was at Sheffield Wednesday the year before, so the manager has improved his squad from a team that’s gone very close.
“It’s a real difficult ask for us, and I think it’s a very similar game to the Port Vale game.”
With Aldershot expected to bring a large following, another big crowd is expected.
Left back Anthony Tonkin is back in contention for a starting place following his recent illness.
