WALLINGFORD kicked off with a thrilling 5-4 win at promoted Ramgarhia in the South League's MBB&O Regional division.
Three times Wallingford went in front, through Ed Allen, Alfred Carey – after some good work down the right by Tom Charlston – and Tim Chamberlain.
In the second half, a crisp shot from the top of the D by Angus Jones extended it to 4-2 and Chamberlain struck again for Wallingford’s fifth.
The home side fought back as Wallingford lost their composure in a torrid 15-minute spell, but they just hung on.
Rover Oxford still took a lot of positives from their match, despite going down 1-0 at Eastcote, also in the Regional top division.
Rover dominated possession in spells but couldn’t find a breakthrough, and with 15 minutes left they were caught on a quick counter-attack.
A long ball through the defence left two Eastcote forwards in on goal with one covering defender, and a deflected finish beat the keeper.
Oxford Hawks 2nd earned a 2-2 draw with Staines 2nd.
Two goals early in the second half helped City of Oxford beat British Airways 2-1 in Regional 2.
Andy Small scored after a move that saw half City’s team touch the ball, and Richard Harding inadvertently made it two with a cross.
BA hit back with ten minutes to go, leaving City an uncomfortable last few minutes.
Ben White hit four in Rover Oxford 2nd’s 7-2 win over Eastcote 2nd in Regional 2. Richard Gilbert, Matt Neilson and Hew Tasker also scored.
