Oxford Hawks Ladies put in a convincing performance in their first home game in South Clubs’ League Division 1, as they slammed Southgate 5-1.

Zoe Salter got them off the mark, deflecting a strike into the D past the keeper.

Fi Walton added to this with a well-timed deflection.

Takara Haines was unstoppable at the back, and Hawks settled into some fine attacking play.

Salter expertly finished off another attack and Becky Odlin made it four after a devastating push forward by Tacita Haines.

Southgate pulled one back, but Anna French sealed it after some more rapid play.

Rover Oxford brought home a hard-earned point in a 1-1 draw at newly-promoted Brighton & Hove in Division 2.

Rover won a short corner near the close of the first half, which was smartly converted by Suzie Williams.

Rover’s keeper saved a penalty flick but Brighton kept pressing and equalised from close range.

In Division 3A, City of Oxford went down 4-3 at home to Staines 2nd.

City were mortified to go behind when an umpire ruled that one of their players had hit the ball with the wrong side of her stick, and Staines scored from the strike.

They went three down but clawed their way back. Ann-Marie Davenport, Claire Hooper and Kim Watkins scored in a fine comeback, but it wasn’t enough.

Witney lost 2-1 at home to Marlow in Division 3A, Sadie Lapper getting their goal.
