Zamaretto Southern League
Leamington 2, Oxford City 0
OXFORD City are still looking for their first win after falling to two second-half goals at Leamington in the Premier Division on Saturday.
Mike Ford’s men gave an encouraging first-half display, but they fell away after the break to slump to their sixth league defeat in ten matches.
In a goalless first period, City’s Mark Janes sent over an excellent cross that nearly saw Michael Lyon make contact as the ball whistled across the face of goal.
Janes then had a shot at goal which lacked direction, while at the other end, keeper Richard Knight produced a smart save to turn Matt Lewis’s shot around a post.
James Holland fired a free-kick over the bar before the end of the first half, but the home side went in front 11 minutes after the break.
A lofted ball from the right went across to the far side and Jamie Hood headed firmly home.
Leamington started to gain the upper hand, and they doubled their advantage midway through the second half.
Luke Corbett’s header rebounded off the crossbar, and the ball fell conveniently for Lewis, who had the simple task of nodding home.
Late in the game, City newcomer Ryan O’Hara put a header from Dave Savage’s cross into the keeper’s hands, leaving City to rue what might have been.
Oxford City: Knight, Clarke, Ashton, Savage, McIlwain, Blossom, Lyon, Kington, Lennon (Bell 65), Woodley, Janes (O’Hara 50). Subs not used: Kinch, Davis.
Attendance: 570.
