Tetsworth swimmer Simon Burnett is hoping his last-gasp qualification for the 2010 Commonwealth games will lead to a repeat of his gold medal glory in Australia of four years ago.
Burnett, who struck gold in the 100m freestyle in Melbourne, secured his place with his final swim at the British Gas Swimming Championships in April.
The 26-year-old American-based Brit stormed to 50m freestyle gold in 22.53secs, having missed out in the 100m.
“I’m happy that I dealt with the disappointment after the 100m,” reflected Burnett.
“I don't think I can say it’s the form of my life, but I’m very happy with my speed.
“It’s always tough to come home in front of a big crowd.”
