Greene King ODDA Summer League champions Rileys Social Club C held on to their unbeaten Premier Section record after a great scrap at the Butchers Arms.

Playing the pairs first, the champs went into the singles games 2-1 up and a fine win from Roger Haines over Pete Readhead increased their lead.

Butchers hit back via Pete Eagle (180), Ian Moss and Andy Coggins, Eagle overcoming previously unbeaten Stuart Dutton with the help of a stunning 156 finish, despite Dutton’s 17th maximum this season.

With Rileys in danger of losing for the first time, Phil Addison hauled them back by defeating John Britnell to level the scores at 4-4 and in a tense last game, Aaran Stevens held his nerve to defeat Tony Buckingham and give Rileys the verdict.

Rileys A made it a double for the club when a 6-3 win over the visiting Shears gave them the Section 1 title at their first attempt.

Rose Hill Community Centre A are the Section 2 champions after seeing off visitors Chequers Inn A 9-0.

Green Road Social Club had put themselves in a great position after last week’s 9-0 win at College Oak, but Oak had their revenge this week with a shock 5-4 success.

Prince of Wales took the Section 4 title after wins from Wayne Cox, Dave Presley and Mark Bayliss, plus a 3-0 pairs succcess, gave them a 6-3 triumph at home to Marston British Legion B Berinsfield CC need just one point from their last game to clinch the runners-up spot after a 7-2 victory over the visiting Cricketers Arms.

Chequers Inn C took the Section 6 crown despite crashing to their first defeat of the season when the visiting Headington British Legion beat them 5-4.

Section 8 champions the Priory visited Catherine Wheel B and got off to a good start when Simon Pearce and Steve Preece gave them a 2-0 lead.

The home side hit back to level through Ian Lockyer and Gary Holden, but the Priory stormed back as Carl Joy and Ryan Wells made it 4-2 and success in the pairs increased it to 6-3.

Joy notched a maximum in the pairs.

Entries for the Greene King ODDA Winter League must be in by October 3.
